Seeing Clearly

Sometimes, things in life happen that allow us to understand
our priorities very clearly. Ultimately, you can see those as gifts.

~ Mariska Hargitay

Optically speaking, 20/20 indicates clear vision. Therefore, 2020 is a time to gain clarity and to see clearly. 2020 is a time to become more aware and in tune with who we are and why we are here having this human life experience, so we can decide how we want to feel.

Apparently, the Universe is urging me to get very clear. I went to a new eye doctor last week for an annual checkup. My last exam was actually April 2018. I’ve noticed the last few months that my left eye seems to “feel heavy” and be a bit more blurry even with my glasses on. I’m nearsighted, so I don’t need glasses to read or view the computer screen. I don’t wear glasses all of the time as it is. I wear them when I’m driving, watching the television or speaking to a group of people.

When viewing the computer screen, the letters seem to bleed as if they had gotten wet. I happened to notice this specifically when I covered my right eye and viewed the screen only through my left one. I didn’t think much about it because I’ve been writing Embracing the Magic Within and have been staring at the computer screen for long periods of time the past few months.

The eye exam was extensive compared to the others I’ve had in the past. As I was looking through the Phoropter, the doctor would ask if lens 1 was better than 2, 3 better than 1, and so on, but they all looked the same. He took a deeper look and also took photos of the macula.

Turns out, I have a cataract in my left eye. I’m sure I had the look of being dumbfounded as I replied, “I’m only 49.” The doctor indicated that it isn’t an “old person” cataract, but one that was created by trauma. He first asked if I had taken any steroids. I was a bit taken aback thinking I’m not a body builder. Then, I remembered that I had a few intense cases of poison ivy over the years that required a steroid shot to clear it up.

He then asked if I had ever experienced trauma to the head or eye and my response was yes. He then asked from what, and I replied my father. Speaking those words triggered me. Needless to say, the memories began to surface as the emotions arose. A consultation for surgery was scheduled before I left the office, and then I called my mom to ask which eye received the blunt force. I knew, but needed her to confirm it for me.

Somehow sleep allows us to see clearly those very things
that are obscured by the light of day.

~ James Lee Burke

My sleep was restless that night as I was attempting to remember all of the details leading up to the experience and what happened after. Having occurred many decades ago, it was the summer before I turned 12 years old. Bits and pieces came to me, but I couldn’t remembered most of it. The next day, I finally released the need to know the details that I could not remember.

The initial shock has worn off and now I’m focusing on clearing the energetic trauma in order to prepare for the procedure to clear the physical trauma. As humans, we are having numerous experiences to help us grow and evolve. These experiences can sometimes be challenging, but we can always choose how we wish to respond to them. I believe we must feel it in order to clear it and heal it, which is what I am choosing to do. This will include cocooning as necessary and becoming more mindful of my own energy investments through this process.

You have to look closely to see clearly. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita

Please know I am not pointing a finger or blaming anyone. As the saying goes, “When we know better, we do better.” I cannot say with 100% certainty that the experience is indeed what created the cataract. I am simply recognizing that I felt triggered by the diagnosis and question posed. I will admit that I do wonder why this wasn’t diagnosed earlier. I’ve had regular eye exams and have been wearing glasses since I was a teenager. 2020 is a time to get clear and before long, I will literally be able to see clearly!
