Taking Responsibility

Copyright 2012 Caitlin R. WilsonI followed my own advice for the holidays. I wrote and published the blog, Journey into the Holidays, on December 21 in preparation for the upcoming family gatherings.
The 6 tips are:
1) Be Present
2) Breathe
3) Ground Your Energy
4) Center Your Energy
5) Release and Receive
6) Express Your Gratitude

I invite you to read the blog in its entirety as the advice is something that can be utilized regularly.

As I mentioned, it’s important to “allow yourself to acknowledge those individuals and situations that are “triggers” for you and push your “buttons” so that you can clear those triggers from affecting you anymore.” During the family gathering at my home on Sunday afternoon, I was triggered. After hesitating for a brief moment, I opted to say something. With a dozen wide-eyed witnesses, I spoke my truth or shall I say I spoke what I perceived to be my truth. One family member and his wife were expressing their displeasure with a gift they received. I communicated that it is the intention behind the gift rather than the gift itself. I recognized that this issue was simply the surface and knew that much deeper “issues” were there. I vocalized that each one of us has their own perception and each one has their own story. Rather than staying in the room, I chose to leave. After regaining my composure and as everyone began to leave, I apologized to everyone and took responsibility for speaking my truth.

With that being said, I believe that it’s important for each one of us to take responsibility for our lives without making excuses or blaming others. We have the power to create the life we desire. We really do! By choosing to stay in the heart-space and shift our perception of the experiences we have had, are having or will have, we can literally shift the energy around those experiences.

Some people, such as the family members that triggered a response from me, choose to continually rehash and relive experiences that have long since passed and allow it to affect their current state of being. Let’s move on and move forward while allowing ourselves to see these experiences from a Higher perspective and recognize them as opportunities for learning and growth.
